An innovative breakthrough from the UK-based company Pavegen has introduced a technology that transforms your steps into electrical power. This groundbreaking concept was presented at the World Future Energy Conference in the UAE.
Pavegen has engineered tiles that house an electromagnetic generator beneath them. The act of stepping on these tiles causes the generator to activate, thereby producing electricity.
While the electricity yield from these tiles is modest, it’s sufficient for applications such as illuminating street lamps and charging handheld gadgets.
In Washington, Pavegen’s tiles are employed to energize LED lighting, and across the UK, they’re powering displays and mobile charging points.

Lawrence Kemball-Cook, the pioneer behind Pavegen, states that the electricity harnessed from footsteps can be directed to batteries or gadgets. He highlights that these tiles are operational in over 37 nations and have the ptential to energize interactive games through the capture of step data.
Pavegen is also advancing towards the creation of dual-function tiles that will amalgamate solar power with kinetic energy from footsteps, aiming to launch these solar-kinetic tiles in the upcoming summer.
